Cuchara Valley Recreation Program

We start at the West Peak trail head for this ____ hike.  The first part of the trail is mostly flat and is an easy walk.  Once we get to the switchbacks the trail gets a little steeper and a little more difficult, but still a doable hike for people and dogs of all ages.  There are some great lookout points along the trail which are a great opportunity to get some pictures of the valley.  On our way up we stop and visit an old mine which is a big hit with the kids.  Our lunch spot is at the tree line where there is a great panoramic from New Mexico to the Cuchara Valley to Walsenburg.
